Voting Rights Code brings together research, policy, and technical experience focused on election infrastructure.
Our Story
Research turned into public infrastructure.
Voting Rights Code was born out of a young submarine officer's desire to do more for his country nearly a decade after Shelby v. Holder. For his senior thesis at USNA, he worked with Mathematics Professor Daphne Skipper to develop an algorithm that measured changes to access to polling locations pre- and post-decision, and calculated how to make the situation better.
Daphne told Susama about this research project over lunch one day, who immediately saw its relevance to policymakers and election officials. Six months later, a group of friends made their first git commit together, launching an open-source project to reinforce our nation's democratic infrastructure.
Sometimes, the moment chooses you.
